Committee for Gippsland welcomes state government funding announcement for a new hospital in West Gippsland
The Committee for Gippsland (C4G) welcomes today's state government funding announcement for a new hospital in West Gippsland, with both major parties now committing the project.
Committee for Gippsland (C4G) CEO Tony Cantwell said a new hospital for West Gippsland had been a key priority for C4G, highlighted in its Strategic Plan 2021 - 2024 and is critical to maintaining essential services for a rapidly growing part of Gippsland. "The Committee for Gippsland has been advocating for a West Gippsland hospital for some years, which will be vital in servicing the growing needs of the West Gippsland region and beyond," Tony Cantwell said.

Ensuring the required facilities
Mr Cantwell added, "We welcome this commitment to health services in the region, that will not only create jobs during construction, but importantly ensure our fast growing region in West Gippsland has the facilities it requires."
"Congratulations to the team at the West Gippsland Healthcare Group, including doctors, nurses and front-line health workers as well as the local community on today's news."
The new hospital will have 223 beds and 33 emergency department treatment spaces, three new operating theatres equipped with cutting-edge technology, a new birthing unit, including special care nursery cots and maternity unit and up to 25 spaces to provide outpatient care and specialist treatment. The build is expected to create about 1,500 construction jobs.
