Darren Chester, Federal Member for Gippsland, announced the closure of the Kalimna loop walk's rock wall at Lakes Entrance for a major upgrade due to erosion and drainage issues.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says the rock wall which forms part of the Kalimna loop walk at Lakes Entrance will be closed from May 1 to allow for a major upgrade. The rock wall which was built more than 35 years ago has some significant drainage, erosion and undermining issues that make it difficult to maintain a good surface.

Grant recipients
The popular walk provides lovely views across the Gippsland Lakes to Rigby Island and walkers can often spot dolphins or seals in the area. It's part of a larger project managed by East Gippsland Shire Council that received $2.25 million from the previous federal government for the:
- Hotel Road lookout
- Rotary Park redevelopment
- Linking pathways program
East Gippsland civil construction firm Cal Civil will undertake the rock wall works over the next two months.
