Day 1

Take a deep dive into a cooking class at String & Salt in Warragul. The 5-hour classes span salting and curing, fermentation, mushroom foraging and food journeys of the world, from Chinese dumplings, to a Turkish table and Malay curries.

Day 2

Day 1

Drink in the beauty of the picture-perfect village of Walhalla. 'Stunning' is a severe understatement for this heritage town nestled within a deep valley. Take a journey back in time to discover the town's deep history. The Walhalla Post Office and Corner Stores are beautifully restored buildings. You can visit the lofty cricket ground where the flat land was created by slicing off the top of the mountain! The intriguing cemetery sits high on a steep cliff. For the brave of heart, you can take a Ghost Tour to learn about the town's history and mysterious stories.

Day 2

Weave along the Walhalla Tramline Walk, taking in resplendent views of the village, then venture underground on the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine Tour, to learn about life of a gold miner and see Cohen's Reef, one of the highest yielding gold deposits in Victoria.

Fill your belly at the Wally Pub serving up pub favourites, then head for Baw Baw National Park via Rawson. En route you can check out the short, 500m walk around Rawson Crater Lake for a tranquil lakeside walk among an abundance of native bird and wildlife.Park at the Mt Erica Car Park then take the 3km Mushroom Rocks Walk through dense forest until you reach a maze of giant boulders, the namesake of the walk.

Day 1

Head to the verdant countryside of Jindivick and stroll around Laurie Collins Sculpture Garden and onsite Red Hill Gallery, brimming with sculptures crafted from recycled metal. Wander through the fairytale gardens of Broughton Hall (autumn season is 20 Apr - 11 Jun) and caffeine up at The Jindi Cafe. You can't go past the sponge cake.

Venture to nearby Neerim South. If you've timed your visit with the monthly Winter Markets (second Sat of the month), you can browse the indoor artisan and food stalls, then head to Five Aces Brewery for lunch and a sample of the craft brews. Spend your afternoon wandering Neerim South's Main Street sculpture collection and dine at the Neerim South Hotel.

Day 2

Visit the Noojee Trestle Bridge and if you're feeling active, follow the old rail line to the Noojee railway precinct. Pop into Neerim South's Serigraph Gallery (by appointment) to see the works of local artists, then head over to Yarragon to spend an afternoon exploring the artisan delights of a creative community.
