Exercise caution at unpatrolled spots at Mallacoota beaches as December storms have altered Bastion Point
December storms altered Bastion Point beach, prompting its closure. Mallacoota offers alternative beaches like Betka, Quarry, and Secret Beach. Check Life Saving Victoria's website for details.
Storm events in early December have changed beach conditions in Mallacoota at the popular Bastion Point beach. This means that Bastion Point has been closed to the public due to these temporary and unsafe conditions. Never fear though as Mallacoota has many more beautiful beaches that are still publicly accessible, including Betka Beach, Quarry Beach, and Secret Beach. More details about these and other beaches are available on the Life Saving Victoria website.
Kelp clearance ongoing at Bastion Point Boat Ramp to ensure summer functionality, with relocation for adjacent beach accessibility
These beaches are not patrolled, and the public are reminded to be mindful of local conditions and their own swimming abilities. The same storm events also brought a lot of kelp to the Bastion Point Boat Ramp which is currently being cleared to ensure that the boat ramp is operational for summer. Given the volume of kelp and sand being removed, the kelp is being relocated off site with appropriate approvals, to ensure that the small beach adjacent to the boat ramp remains accessible.
