Bourne Creek Beach and Mussel Rocks stairs in Bass Coast to be upgraded by SR Excavations by June 2024, weather permitting

Bass Coast Shire has hired SR Excavations for maintenance at Bourne Creek Beach and Mussel Rocks stairs. Completion is expected by June 2024, with a $240,000 budget from council's 2023/24 Capital Works Program.

Bass Coast Shire has appointed SR Excavations to carry out maintenance repair works at Bourne Creek Beach, Kilcunda East and Mussel Rocks Access Stairs Upgrade. Construction works have commenced and will be completed by the end of June 2024, subject to favourable weather, contractor, supplier, and material availability. The total budget for this project is $240,000 and these works will be as part of Council's 2023/24 Capital Works Program.

Beach access stairs will be replaced, restricting access. Follow site signs for alternate routes. Safety measures and permits are in place. Expect noise and vibrations from heavy machinery. Thank you for your patience

What to expect

Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve said, "This project will renew and enhance the beach access structures to improve safety and accessibility for everyone and is a much-needed project. I thank everyone in advance for your patience while the works are upgraded."

• Existing beach access stairs at these sites will be part removed and replace
• For construction at these sites, access to the beach will be restricted, and users must use alternate access points, as per site instruction signs
• For safety reasons, this will be a construction zone. Appropriate and approved traffic measures will be in place throughout the works. All appropriate works approvals and permits have been approved by the relevant agencies
• The use of heavy plant and machinery including noisy, and vibration works such as earthworks and the use of trucks/crane for delivering concrete and materials to site

We appreciate that these works may present an inconvenience to public users, and we have asked for their patience during these times. Our contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions during construction
