Gippsland Logistics Precinct gets $20M government funding to bolster job creation and manufacturing

Victorian government invests $10 million in the Gippsland Logistics Precinct, bolstering job creation and manufacturing, aligning with the Australian government's $10 million commitment for economic growth.

The Victorian government is progressing development of the Gippsland Logistics Precinct, with a $10 million commitment to the Morwell project. This brings the total government investment to $20 million to support logistics and manufacturing works at the development-ready site. This investment aligns with the Australian government pledge of $10 million in the 2022/23 Budget.

Victoria's investment covers Latrobe City Council projects and a University of Melbourne proposal to harness geothermal energy for cost-effective, low-emission heating and cooling at the precinct

Economic hub development

The precinct is expected to create up to 1000 jobs when fully operational, bringing together advanced manufacturing, transport and logistics sectors, and growing Gippsland's manufacturing and supply chain industries. It will act as a catalyst for new investment in the Latrobe Valley, capable of growing Gippsland's $7 billion food and fibre sector and benefiting Victoria's $21 billion supply chain and logistics industry.

Construction is underway on the precinct,s first stage to develop industrial zoned land to attract businesses to the precinct, providing a gateway to the world for Gippsland businesses with road and rail freight access in easy reach.

Economic expansion initiatives

Victoria's investment includes funding for Latrobe City Council works at the site, as well as the University of Melbourne to develop an investment-ready proposal to access the Latrobe Valley's geothermal energy. It will explore the delivery of cost‑effective, low emissions, geothermal heating and cooling for businesses at the precinct. The funding will also support a future food incubator program for small and medium food and fibre enterprises to innovate and grow their businesses.

Subsequent investigations determined the logistics precinct as the best location to invest the additional funds, to capitalise on the works already underway at the site. The precinct is part of the Victorian government's plans to strengthen and diversify the Latrobe Valley economy through more jobs, investment and growth across industries.
