Darren Chester is pleased to announce Gippsland Veterans Welfare Centre nearing completion after $1.1M upgrade to support veterans
The Gippsland Veterans Welfare Centre upgrade is nearly complete, thanks to a $1.1 million federal grant and dedicated local volunteers improving access and services for veterans and their families.
The major refurbishment of the Gippsland Veterans Welfare Centre is practically complete, with just the finishing touches remaining before local veterans can enjoy the full benefits of this much-needed project, according to Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

The Gippsland Veterans Welfare Centre on Macalister Street in Sale received a $1.1 million Federal Government grant to undertake the redevelopment, which Mr Chester said was a huge win for the hard-working volunteers who provide a wide range of services to veterans and their families.
"I was lucky enough to get an informal tour of the newly upgraded facility, and the transformation has significantly improved access for people with mobility issues, ensuring the centre meets modern health and safety standards. As the former Minister for Veterans' Affairs, I understand the importance of developing a network of wellbeing centres across the country to meet the needs of veterans and their families," he said.
Mr Chester praised a working group of four local veterans whose tireless efforts contributed greatly to the project's success. "Much of the credit needs to go to Kylie Willmot, Michael Page, Ross Jackson and Des Fitzgibbon, who developed the plans and submitted a funding application, which resulted in this grant. Without their dedication, our local veterans would be much worse off, and I want to personally thank them for their service," Mr Chester said.
