Shadow Minister for Water, Tim McCurdy, paid a visit to the Hazelwood mine this week to discuss plans for rehabilitation alongside The Nationals Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron. "Visiting the Hazelwood mine and learning more about the rehabilitation process this week has given me a greater insight into the delicate balance required to ensure the mine is rehabilitated in a way that benefits the community," Mr McCurdy said.

Mr McCurdy said, "I have full confidence that Engie will fulfil its obligations and with Martin Cameron keeping a close eye on progress I'm sure the results will benefit the region, acknowledging rehabilitation of the mine is a long process."
Mr Cameron said it was crucial that local industry and the community continue to be engaged as rehabilitation of the mine progresses. "Hazelwood powered Victoria for half a century and it's vital that we get rehabilitation right so it can be transformed into an asset that is stable and safe for generations to come," he said.
"It was terrific to have the Shadow Minister in town for a visit to Hazelwood so he can appreciate the sheer size of the mine and get an understanding for water allocations required for rehabilitation. I firmly believe that having a local lens over this project is crucial moving forward, and the Coalition in government will ensure the Latrobe Valley is left with a functional legacy it can be proud of," he said.
