Guide Park Redevelopment $1.77 M project in Bass Coast Shire to begin early 2022

Bass Coast Shire Council awarded the tender for the Project at its December meeting.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that the redevelopment will create an accessible, intergenerational space that offers a variety of challenging experiences while also providing natural shade and park amenities for residents and visitors. "Guide Park will become an inclusive regional scale playspace, catering for all ages and abilities. The design draws upon extensive community consultation with elements reflecting the Shire's coal mining history and amazing natural environment," Cr Whelan said.

Families across the Shire will be excited with the construction of the $1.77 million Guide Park Redevelopment Project set to begin in early 2022

Redevelopment highlights

Cr Whelan said the highlights include:

  • Accessible carousel
  • Creek bed
  • Custom mining themed tower
  • Double flying fox
  • Nature based play and a trampoline

The redevelopment will also create a space for teenagers which includes a parkour style monkey bars and a gentle exercise area for older adults and rehabilitation which is easy to access from the neighbouring hospital and aged care facility."

Support funding from the government

The Project will see the removal of the existing playground, with the new playspace located under the established trees for shade. Other amenities includes:

  • Accessible public barbecue
  • New pathways
  • Roadways and parking

Cr Whelan said that his wonderful community project would not have been possible without the support from the Victorian Government, with grants of $700,000 through Sports and Recreation Victoria and $350,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund.
