Saint Ita School receives $2M funding from from Victorian Non-Government Schools Capital Fund

Students at Catholic and Independent schools across Baw Baw Shire will benefit from better facilities and upgraded classrooms - thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor government.

St. Ita's will receive $2,000,000 as part of Round 4 of the 2019-23 Non-Government Schools Capital Fund, which will go towards creating a new learning centre incorporating 6 GLA's, a technology hub, breakout areas, intervention rooms, and student amenities. Funding will also go towards refurbishing their school's library to create an art/music specialist space and undertake alterations to existing hardcourts to create outdoor learning areas. More than one-third of students in Victoria attend Catholic or Independent schools.

Ensuring educational access

Existing schools were able to apply for funding of up to $2 million to upgrade facilities or up to $3 million to expand capacity in areas of Victoria experiencing significant enrolment demand. Grants of up to $5 million were also available to build new schools or new campuses.

In the past eight years, the Andrews Labor government has invested $12.8 billion in building new schools and more than 1,850 school upgrades, creating around 17,400 jobs in construction and associated industries.

The Labor government is now ahead of schedule in opening 100 new schools by 2026, with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024 - ensuring every student can access a great local school and a quality education no matter where they live.

Record investment in education

Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins said, "Every Victorian student deserves access to good quality school facilities which is why we're continuing our record investment in education infrastructure."

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "St. Ita's is a great school with a great learning environment, and this funding will help them to continue to provide quality educational opportunities for Drouin's growing population."
