Farhat Firdous sworn in as Baw Baw Shire Councillor for Central Ward role
Farhat Firdous sworn in as Baw Baw Shire Councillor at West Gippsland Arts Centre. Took Oath of Office, signed in presence of CEO, fellow councillors, guests, and council Staff.
Farhat Firdous was sworn in as a Baw Baw Shire Councillor at a ceremony held at West Gippsland Arts Centre on Wednesday 14 June 2023. To officially commence her role as councillor of the Central Ward, Cr Firdous took the Oath of Office, pledging to "undertake the duties of the office of councillor in the best interests of the municipal community and to abide by the councillor Code of Conduct and uphold the standards of conduct set out in the councillor Code of Conduct."

Welcoming new councillor
Cr Firdous signed the Oath in the presence of Chief Executive Officer, Mark Dupe, fellow councillors, guests and attending council Staff. "Baw Baw Shire Council is pleased to welcome Cr Firdous to our council group" said Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Annemarie McCabe. "As a well-respected community leader, Ms Firdous brings passion and commitment to serving the residents of Baw Baw Shire. I encourage our community to join us in congratulating and welcoming Cr Firdous".
Following the swearing in ceremony, Cr Firdous officially took up her duties as councillor and participated in Wednesday's ordinary council meeting. Cr Firdous expressed her gratitude and dedication towards serving the Baw Baw Shire community. "I look forward to getting to know our residents even more and hearing their thoughts and ideas to better improve our beautiful Shire," she said.
"I am proud to join a council that is working towards a more inclusive and welcoming community and look forward to making a meaningful contribution as part of the councillor group," she said. Cr Firdous was declared elected by the Victorian Electoral Commission on 17 May 2023, filling the extraordinary vacancy of former councillor Joe Gauci. She will serve for the duration of the current council term until October 2024.
