Danny O'Brien urges prioritisation to establish new Sale College campus by Victorian government
Danny O'Brien, advocating since 2017, urges swift action from the government for the Sale College campus. Progress on designs and site negotiations is positive, but funding is now crucial for the students' best facilities.
The development of a new Sale College campus is continuing to be pushed by The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien. Mr O'Brien who has been campaigning for a new school on a single campus since 2017 raised the matter during parliament's Budget Hearings last week. Mr O'Brien said $3 million had been provided in the 2021-2022 budget to develop a master plan for the new school but little progress has occurred since.
Sale's students need top facilities for their future, that is why Danny O'Brien is urging the government to prioritise and expedite the establishment of the new Sale College
Funding for education
Mr O'Brien said, "It was a good step forward that funding was provided for the master plan, and I've now received an update from questioning the Department of Education as to where a new school is up to.
"However, we don't have funding for the build to go ahead and it's time the Allan Labor government looked after students in the Sale and Wellington Shire area and got on with the job of building a new school," he said.
School progress update
Mr O'Brien said, "Education department officials advised that full schematic designs and plans for a new school had been completed and negotiations were being finalised with Wellington Shire Council for a new site on Cobains Road. They have also advised that plans are as advanced as discussing school access arrangements and a roundabout at Cobains and Gibsons Rd."
Mr O'Brien said these are positive developments to have on the record, but we now need funding to go ahead. "Our school students in Sale and surrounds need the best facilities we can give them to set them up for life. I call on the government to now get on with the job and ensure that we have a new Sale College as quickly as possible."
