The Andrews Labor government invests $5.7 million for new social housing homes in Drouin and Morwell
Government investment to provide support housing for the less advantaged people.
The Victorian Government is ramping up delivery of the Big Housing Build across the state with the first allocation of funds to community housing projects - with more than $1 billion in projects to commence this year. The Government is investing $14 million across Eastern Victoria, delivering 52 new social housing homes across 6 projects.
Big build is a government project to deliver housing support for the disadvantaged people living with mental illness or disability, people escaping family violence, Victoria's First Peoples and individuals experiencing homelessness
Providing accommodation and support
This investment includes $3.74 million in funding for 16 homes in Drouin, providing accommodation and support services for disadvantaged people living with long-term mental ill-health, delivered in partnership with The Haven Foundation.
- $1.15 million in funding will go towards delivering 4 homes in Morwell in partnership with Aboriginal Housing Victoria
- $827,345 in funding will go towards delivering a further 3 homes in Morwell in partnership with Community Housing (Vic) Ltd
The projects are part of almost $740 million the Labor Government is investing in 89 community housing projects across regional and metropolitan areas.
Investment to deliver homes
This investment will deliver 2,352 homes across the state giving more Victorians the stability of a home while creating more than 9000 jobs - with shovels expected to be in the ground by the end of the year.
The homes will be made available to those in the most need of housing including people living with mental illness or disability, people escaping family violence, Victoria's First Peoples and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Boosting social housing supply
The Government's $5.3 billion Big Housing Build is delivering more than 12,000 new homes - boosting Victoria's social housing supply by 10 per cent - while generating 10,000 jobs each year over the four-year program.
The Big Housing Build is investing $1.25 billion in regional areas - ensuring the programs economic and social benefits are felt in communities across the state. A minimum of $14.69 million will be invested by the Victorian Government in the Eastern Victoria region.
Project to create jobs
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "These Big Housing Build projects are a really important part of providing more modern, comfortable and secure homes for those who need them across West Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley, with construction to get underway this year."
"These projects will create 48 building and construction jobs in West Gippsland, and 24 jobs in the Latrobe Valley - and they're part of a pipeline of more than $85 million in public and social housing projects for Gippsland."
Minister for Housing Richard Wynne said, "Our record investment in housing is not only providing a roof over the head of vulnerable Victorians who need it - it's creating thousands of jobs and supporting the Victorian economy."
