Gipsy Point and Cabbage Tree Creek communities with little mobile coverage not on says Darren Chester
Federal MP Darren Chester has written to the Communications Minister seeking an update on projects approved under round one of the Regional Connectivity Program.
Federal MP Darren Chester said he was concerned that projects in fire prone areas with little to no mobile coverage were not made a priority. "The last advice received from the department was in late May which stated all round one projects were due to be completed in June 2023," Mr Chester said.
Darren Chester MP will continue to advocate for high risk communities with weak mobile coverage that are impacted by black summer bushfires
Improving safety and connectivity
Mr Chester said, "The Gipsy Point community was severely impacted by the Black Summer bushfires and another summer period without mobile coverage is causing locals much anxiety. Similarly in the Cabbage Tree Creek community which is another high risk fire area."
"While I can appreciate that base station deployment is a complex process, delivering these base stations in a timely manner improves safety and connectivity in our region."
"Residents in the Gipsy Point and Cabbage Tree Creek communities deserve to have these projects delivered as soon as possible and I will continue to advocate on their behalf." Mr Chester concluded.
