Planning Scheme Amendment C145 for Yarragon-Leongatha Road progresses to independent panel
Planning Amendment C145bawb proposes to rezone the affected land at 28 and Part 63 Yarragon-Leongatha Road from Farming Zone to Neighbourhood Residential Zone and protect a locally significant heritage site, Deloraine homestead.
Following a public exhibition period, Planning Amendment C145bawb applying to 28 and Part 63 Yarragon-Leongatha Road, Yarragon will be referred to an independent Planning Panel to consider submissions received and the proposed changes to the planning scheme. The proposal also includes planning application PLA0262/21, submitted by the proponent, Millar Merrigan to develop a multi-lot residential subdivision including a super lot and associated infrastructure.
This Planning Scheme Amendment C145 for 28 and Part 63 Yarragon-Leongatha Road, Yarragon is open for public consultation between 9 June and 11 July 2022
Community consultation
The combined planning scheme amendment and planning permit was placed on public exhibition in accordance with Section 96C of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, from 9 June 2022 and concluding on 11 July 2022. Prior to making a submission, community members were also invited to attend a face-to-face consultation session on Monday 27 June at the Yarragon Public Hall to discuss the application.
At the Wednesday 14 September ordinary council meeting, Baw Baw Shire Council moved the decision to request the Minister for Planning to refer the Amendment and the associated draft planning permit to an independent Planning Panel.
The independent panel will then review the submissions received from the community and the proponent's suggested changes. To learn more and view all relevant documents, go to Amendment C145 - 28 and Part 63 Yarragon-Leongatha Road Yarragon page.
Future residential zone
Mayor Cr Michael Leaney said, "The previously adopted Yarragon Structure Plan has identified this land as a future general residential zone and this amendment is essentially formalising the land rezoning process."
"The amendment will increase the land available for development while maintaining the rural character of the town and protecting the Deloraine homestead."
"It was important we gathered feedback from our community on this amendment and I thank the community members who came out to the one-on-one sessions and who made a submission". Cr Leaney said.
