Workshops on glass making, truffle hunting basket weaving and cooking by Gippsland operators

Weave, bake, shape clay, fuse glass or join the hunt for the elusive black truffle. Each of these workshops are set in wondrous locations that are worth exploring in their own right. So after you've got your black belt in your new craft, stay on to explore some special places.

Learn glass fusing workshop

Learn to make your own art pieces from glass in a small workshop located in the utterly adorable The Shed. All materials, tools and firing costs are included in the workshop cost.

The workshops will be conducted by Gaele Whitehouse, practising artist in glass and clay and has a Bachelor of Craft majoring in Ceramics in Monash University

Explore Walhalla

Walhalla is like nowhere else, set in a deep valley and surrounded by plunging hills. This picture-perfect town has a gold mining past that has been lovingly preserved. Ride the Walhalla Goldfields Railway through surrounding forest or venture underground in the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine. Learn truffle hunt and taste

Stroll through the French oaks alongside trusty dogs, observing how their keen senses locate the buried treasure. Unearth and experience the intense aromatics of freshly harvested black truffles. Return to the Truffle House to taste a range of delicious truffle dishes and enjoy a glass of wine.

Explore around Jumbunna

Nestled into hilly countryside, Jumbunna is the very essence of bucolic farmland. You're right next to the sheep cheesery, Prom Country Cheese, and it's also a quick dash to Korumburra where you can visit Burra Brewery or the excellent cafe, The Borough Dept. Store. You can reach the stunning coastal hamlet of Inverloch in 15 minutes.

The Coal Creek Community Park & Museum which opens on Friday to Monday, free entry, is a step back in time to the coal mining heritage of the town

Learn basket weaving or clay

Various dates over Apr & May, The Potters Lodge. You may just want to pack up shop and move to the country after you take part in these workshops. The Potters Lodge is absolutely stunning overlooking endless rolling hills. Choose from basket weaving (suitable for beginners) or clay play. The workshops include lunch and all materials.

Explore Foster

Enjoy the tranquil surrounds where the rolling hills of the Strzelecki Ranges meet the ocean at Wilsons Promontory. Dash to Gurneys for one of the most scenic places possible to enjoy a cider, or the artsy town of Fish Creek. If you're feeling energetic you can ride a section of the Great Southern Rail Trail.

Learn baking sourdough

Learn to bake fresh bread at home, how to make white and rye starters, shaping and proofing your loaves and then baking your bread to take home (as well as the recipes!). Welcome coffee, snacks and equipment is provided.

Explore Swan Reach

Swan Reach is located where the Nicholson and Tambo Rivers end their long journeys at the Gippsland Lakes. The area is known for boating and fishing, particularly at nearby Metung, the jewel of the Gippsland Lakes. There is a cluster of wineries nearby along the East Gippsland Drink Trail that are well worth incorporating into your journey.
