Martin Cameron offers Year 11 students a life-changing opportunity for the Marsh/Tierney Scholarship and to trek the Kokoda Trail
Martin Cameron invites Year 11 students from Morwell to apply for the $6300 Marsh/Tierney Scholarship, offering a life-changing opportunity to trek the Kokoda Trail and learn about Gippsland's wartime history.
The Nationals Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, is again offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance for high school students living in the Morwell electorate to join him and other Members of Parliament on a trip to trek the Kokoda Trail. The Marsh/Tierney Scholarship is an opportunity for one lucky Year 11 student to join an Adventure Kokoda trip in the July school holidays.

The Marsh/Tierney Scholarship, worth $6300, provides our younger generation with an insight into the Gippsland connection to the Kokoda Trail, and the sacrifices made by service personnel from this area. The successful applicant will be assisted with training and chaperoned on the trek. In addition to the scholarship, there will be around an $600-800 commitment required from participants for items like hiking boots, some incidentals and medical expenses.
"Amelia van Vliet, who was the inaugural winner of the scholarship last year, set the bar incredibly high and impressed us all with her terrific attitude. Trekking the Kokoda Trail is a life-changing experience, and I am so grateful that we are able to support incredible young people in our community with the necessary funding to participate," he said.

Mr Cameron added, "Details of the trek and information on the application process can be obtained from my office, and I encourage any Year 11 students interested to think about applying for this amazing opportunity," Mr Cameron said.
The application process involves a questionnaire and short essay, and those short-listed will also be required to attend a short in-person interview with current or ex-service personnel. Any businesses interested in sponsoring the Marsh/Tierney Scholarship are encouraged to contact Mr Cameron's office.
