Baw Baw Shire Council calls on green thumbs to join 'Peddle and Plant' event at Thomas Maddock Reserve on 27 July 2025
Join Baw Baw Shire "Peddle and Plant" event this National Tree Day to help plant 1,200 native species, support biodiversity, and enjoy a fun, inclusive, family-friendly day in Drouin.
Calling all local green thumbs to join the "Pedal and Plant" tree planting event marked for National Tree Day on Sunday 27 July. Established in 1996, Planet Ark's National Tree Day has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. Each year, around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them.

Pedal, plant and protect
This year's National Tree Day planting event in Baw Baw Shire will take place along the Thomas Maddock Reserve which runs adjacent to the Two Towns Trail, specifically at the corner of Hopetoun Road and Manikato Drive in Drouin.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Danny Goss is encouraging locals to jump on the popular Two Towns Trail and pedal to their event on bicycle, by scooter and on foot where possible. "This year's event will be in the spirit of having fun by doing good, ditching the cars where possible and getting active all in the name of environmental sustainability and giving back to our community."
"This is an all ages and abilities event where everyone is welcome - children are encouraged to join in the fun and the site will be accessible for wheelchair users," said Cr Goss.
Planting for wildlife
West Ward Councillor Ben Lucas said each year this event grew in popularity, and this year would be no exception. "This is a great opportunity for local environmentalists to make a lasting impact on their community by improving local biodiversity and supporting new habitat for our native wildlife."
"Our goal this year is to plant 1,200 plants at the event, so we need as many keen volunteers as possible to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty", said Cr Lucas.
