Gippy Girls Can offers free activities to encourage women and girls to be physically active at inclusive, welcoming events that cater to all skill levels and abilities. East Gippsland Shire Council is partnering with GippSport and Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, who are contributing funding and staffing support to deliver the activities.

Held from Monday 12 September to Sunday 18 September, Gippy Girls Can activities will be free, fun, non-judgemental and suited to women and girls who want to get active again or try something new. Some activities have limited numbers, so book now to secure your spot. A full list of activities is available at GippyGirlsCan.com.

Activities include stand-up paddle boarding in Lakes Entrance, movement classes, gym and swimming pool access, beach yoga in Mallacoota, walking trails, and a skate clinic in Omeo.

Being fit and active

Mayor Cr Mark Reeves said it was great to see Gippy Girls Can is a great way to meet new people and learn new ways to get active. "Gippy Girls Can and This Girl Can helps show women and girls there are plenty of ways to be active. It could be trying something new, or maybe getting back into an activity you used to enjoy."

"The initiative is working. VicHealth says the 2021 This Girl Can campaign inspired almost 340,000 women to get active. I'd like to thank the organisations who are supporting hosting events this year." Cr Reeves said.

This Girl Can began after research showed that a big reason Victorian women don't try new activities or get involved in sport is a fear of being judged, or not being fit enough to start. Twice as many women than men put off getting active because they're worried about what other people think.
