Clear signal for pedestrians

LED tactile paving is a ground surface treatment that changes colour between red and green with the traffic lights, providing a clear signal for pedestrians when it's safe to cross the road. It's easier to see and will prevent pedestrians from walking into oncoming traffic, or assist distracted or vision impaired pedestrians.

LED tactile Project funding

The LED tactile paving project is funded by the Victorian and Australian Government's $245 million Road Safety Program which aims to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

Specifically, the LED tactile paving is part of the program's Innovative Package which will install new innovative treatments at 70 locations across regional Victoria to improve delineation for motorists and pedestrians. Contingent Street in Trafalgar was chosen for the program because many pedestrians, including school students, use it to access the train station across the road.

Enhancing road users safety

Mayor Cr Danny Goss said, "I'm a fan of anything that's going to keep our community safe. With so many students using the busy Contingent Street crossing each day, I applaud the use of innovative technology to enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers in Trafalgar. On behalf of the Council, I welcome the project. I look forward to seeing the LED paving in action."
