Darren Chester urges locals to join Lakes Entrance Parkrun for exercise or volunteering emphasising inclusivity and social connectivity
Darren Chester, Gippsland's Federal Member, encourages locals to join Lakes Entrance parkrun or volunteer, highlighting its inclusive, social atmosphere. He emphasises personal achievement and community engagement.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is encouraging more locals to join in regular exercise at the Lakes Entrance parkrun or to consider volunteering for the popular event. "There's a role for everyone at parkrun. Of course, you can run or walk the 5km course, or you can volunteer to help make the magic happen at one of the 492 sites around Australia every Saturday," Mr Chester said.

Mr Chester also said, "On Saturday, I was given the job of handing out tokens at the finish line in Lakes Entrance, and it was great fun cheering on the participants in perfect conditions. While each parkrun is timed, you are just competing against your own personal best, and it's a safe, friendly exercise opportunity for men and women to enjoy each week."
Mr Chester has participated in more than 70 parkrun events across Gippsland and said he would like to see more people taking the opportunity. "The volunteers do a great job every Saturday to put on a free event on the foreshore, and the numbers always drop back a little in the cooler weather when there's fewer visitors in town."
"It's a fun event for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. While there's obvious physical benefits in regular exercise it's also a terrific social occasion with many runners enjoying a cup of coffee afterwards," he said.
