Danny O'Brien calls to demolish former Sale police station amid rising crime and antisocial behavior
Rising crime and anti-social behaviour have renewed calls to demolish the former Sale police station, with Danny O'Brien urging the Allan Labor government to finalise its sale or repurpose the site.
Rising criminal activity and reports of anti-social behaviour have reignited calls for the former Sale police station to be demolished. The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien said he had been calling on the Labor state government to finalise the sale of the old site for several years.
Rising crime and anti-social behavior have renewed calls to demolish Sale's former police station, with MP Danny O'Brien urging the Labor government to finalize its sale after years of delays
Sale station stalled
Mr O'Brien said, "The old Sale police station is an ideal piece of land on Lake Guthridge and close to the centre of town, but its disposal by the government has been delayed now for a very long time."
"The most recent advice I have received from the Allan Labor government is that negotiations have been 'ongoing' since 2016. Meanwhile the site has become not just an eyesore, but a haven for anti-social behaviour with neighbouring property owners reporting acts of vandalism at all hours of the day and night," he said.
Sale site neglected
Mr O'Brien said he had even had reports of neighbours having bags of human faeces thrown into their yards. "It is deplorable to think that residents are being subjected to this while the Allan Labor government enters its ninth year of 'negotiations'.
"The Allan Labor government needs to get on with the job as the old Sale police station site has become an eyesore and a wasted community asset. If a deal isn't reached soon to sell the old police station it should be knocked down or considered for alternative government or community use. The Allan Labor government can't manage negotiations, can't manage community assets and the wider Sale community is paying the price," he said.
