Bass Coast Shire Council is excited to announce the launch of its program for the upcoming Victorian Seniors Festival - a vibrant celebration of our senior community members and their incredible contributions. This festival shines a spotlight on the diversity and achievements of our older community, with more than one million seniors calling Victoria home.
The festival celebrates Victoria's seniors with 16 local events, funded by Bass Coast Shire Council, highlighting diverse achievements and fostering community engagement through the theme Explore. Engage. Evolve
Explore, engage, evolve
As part of a Victorian Government initiative, this year's theme is Explore. Engage. Evolve brings all 79 councils, including ours, together to invite older Victorians to discover new activities, meet new people, and embrace a fresh perspective on ageing.
Bass Coast Shire Council takes pride in fostering a healthy, inclusive, and connected community where everyone can engage in recreational and social activities. This year, over 16 local events have been curated by community groups with a passion for fostering fun and friendship. For the first time, council has provided small grant funding to help these groups shine by supporting their event costs, including catering, venue bookings, and supplies.
One of the standout events is Johnny Cash and the June Carter Show led by husband-and-wife duo Mark and Joanne Caligiuri which quickly sold out at Berninneit, Cowes. Council is excited to offer free transport to and from the event for patrons coming from locations around the Shire, ticket holders will be contacted to reserve their seat so they can ride in style to this unforgettable tribute to the Man in Black!
Enjoy world-class entertainment
Closer to Wonthaggi, don't miss the incredible 50-piece Victorian Concert Orchestra at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre on Sunday, 20 October at 2pm. From timeless classics by Bach and Mozart to musical theatre favourites, this show is a must-see! Thanks to council's support, tickets are just $15, making this world-class performance accessible to all.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve said "Whether you're stuck on how to start writing your memoir, curious to try your hand at bocce, croquet or CrossFit, or eager to explore Churchill Island camera in hand - Try your hand at something new, support your local clubs, and immerse yourself in the spirit of the festival."
