South Gippsland Shire Council update early January 2022

Council is inviting the community to join the Australia Day Film and Photography Competition, and would like to be able to use any submitted images or videos for the promotion of Australia Day in South Gippsland

Calling all filmmakers and photographers

Whether you are a novice or a professional, we encourage you to enter our Australia Day Photo & Film Competition. The competition is open to South Gippsland residents of all ages with prizes available to winners in each of the following categories: Best Short Film, Best Image, Best Short Film (under 15) and Best Image (under 15).

To be part of the competition, simply create a short film (two to four minutes long) or capture an image that embraces the theme Australia Day: Reflect, Respect, Celebrate. We're All Part of the Story.

To be eligible for consideration, the photos or films must be captured in the South Gippsland region or nearby. Submissions must be received by 11.59pm Sunday 16 January 2022. To submit your entry and for more information, please visit Australia Day Competition page.

Community grants round two open

Grants are available in the following categories:

• Minor Projects and Equipment Grant (up to $5,000)
• Major Projects and Equipment Grant (up to $10,000)
• Festival and Events Grant (up to $10,000)
• Planning and Development Reports (up to$10,000)

The Community Grants Program aims to support community initiatives that enhance the quality of life, heritage, recreation and cultural opportunities for South Gippsland residents

Australia Day events

South Gippsland has a host of Australia Day events planned this year so you can celebrate your way. From BBQs to table tennis marathons, there is something to suit everyone. For all the information, visit South Gippsland Australia Day events page.

Australia Day events will be held across South Gippsland on Tuesday in Korumburra, Leongatha, Mirboo North, Meeniyan, Dumbalk, Foster and Venus Bay, come along and join in the community celebrations

Community grants information session

To help community groups with their Community Grants application, we are holding an information session on 20 January at 6.30pm. The session will brief prospective applicants on what can and can't be funded and provide a demonstration of the SmartyGrants online application process.

To book your place, visit the South Gippsland Community Grants Information Session. When you register, you will be asked a couple of questions that will help inform us what kind of event should be held (online or in-person) and what questions you want answered during the session.

Registrations are essential, please advise how you would prefer to attend the session, whether online or in person, you will be notified one week before the event with details on how the event will be hosted

Australia Day Awards Ceremony

The contributions of this year's South Gippsland Australia Day Awards nominees will be recognised and the 2022 Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year will be announced at a public event at Meeniyan Hall on Wednesday 19 January at 6.30pm. If you cannot attend, we encourage you to read the achievements of all the nominees online by visiting the Australia Day nominations and events page.

Nominees for the 2022 Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year awards will be recognised at an Awards Ceremony to be held on Wednesday 19 January (6.30pm) at the Meeniyan Hall

Request for Tender

Council is seeking submissions from qualified companies/applicants for the RFT/314 — Port Welshpool Boat Ramp Parking Facility Enhancement Project. Submissions closes on Tuesday 1 February 2022 at 2.00pm AEDST. Documentation is available from Council's e-Tendering Portal by visiting South Gippsland eTender Box.

Council is also seeking submissions from qualified companies/applicants for EOI/315 — New Foster Depot Building Refurbishment Project. Submissions close Friday 21 January 2022 at 2.00pm AEDST. Documentation is available from Council's e-Tendering Portal website.

Lost animals

If you are currently missing your pets, please visit the lost and found animals page. We currently have five fur babies who are lost. If any of these look familiar to you, please get in touch with the South Gippsland Animal Shelter in Korumburra on 5658 1900.
