New interactive groundwater map to allow customers easy access launched by Southern Rural Water
New interactive groundwater map launched in southern Victoria to simplify access to groundwater information, including aquifer management units, Groundwater Management Areas, and management rules.
Southern Rural Water launched a new interactive map to help customers easily access groundwater management information in southern Victoria. The new interactive groundwater map can be found on our refreshed groundwater information page. The new map and updated webpage have been organised and streamlined to simplify and improve the experience of customers needing to access groundwater information.

Groundwater management map
The map divides the aquifer management units into aquifer layers - upper aquifers (the shallowest), middle and lower aquifers (the deepest). This helps users to locate which aquifer management unit they are in, and it provides some 3D context.
The interactive map shows our Groundwater Management Areas (GMA), these are typically areas of more intensive groundwater use, where specific management rules have been developed. Customers can locate their area of interest accurately on the map, work out which GMA they are in and click on it to access regulations on the relevant GMA.
The management rules within GMAs describe how much groundwater can be licensed and specific trading rules, and other management requirements such as metering and groundwater monitoring. We will be building on this new platform to include additional information in the future.
