The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien is encouraging local public transport users to have their say on the future of V/Line coach services between Yarram and Melbourne. Mr O'Brien said additional V/Line coach services to Melbourne from Yarram and Leongatha were promised in the 2024-25 State Budget along with an announcement they would commence in 2025.

Danny O'Brien says promised Yarram and Leongatha V/Line coaches will now start in 2026, not 2025, raising concerns

Reliable rail commitment

Mr O'Brien said, "That timeline has now been pushed out to 2026 but more concerning were fears earlier this year that the new and current services would begin terminating at Pakenham East forcing passengers to transfer to trains. Thankfully after raising the matter directly with the Minister for Public and Active Transport I was quickly assured that this would not be occurring and I am counting on the Minister to be true to her word on that."

"However, there are still a number of other matters that need to be addressed for the additional services such as departure times, frequency and stops. It's really important that the people who will be using these services have direct input into these decisions," Mr O'Brien said.

Have your say

Mr O'Brien said, "Face-to-face community consultation has also already commenced with sessions held in Yarram, Leongatha and Koo Wee Rup. It is important that decisions around public transport services are led by the communities that rely on them, not by bureaucrats behind a desk in the city. If you are able to help shape the design for these services, I encourage you to do so," he said.

Mr O'Brien said those wanting to take part in the consultation can do so online at Engage Victoria website.
