Community members are invited to attend ANZAC Day services across 17 townships in Baw Baw Shire to honour veterans' sacrifices, with dawn and later services, including Longwarry's on April 20.
Community members are warmly invited to pay their respects at a commemorative service in Baw Baw Shire this ANZAC Day. Services will take place at war memorials in 17 townships including Aberfeldy, Darnum, Drouin, Erica, Hill End, Jindivick, Longwarry, Longwarry North, Narracan, Neerim South, Noojee, Thorpdale, Trafalgar, Walhalla, Warragul, Willow Grove and Yarragon.
This ANZAC Day, we unite to honour the men and women who served our nation, with local services across Baw Baw Shire
Gather, honour and remember
Many of these commemorations will be dawn services, with others taking place later in the day. The service in Longwarry will be held on the Sunday prior to ANZAC Day, Sunday 20 April, which falls on Easter Sunday this year.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Danny Goss is encouraging everyone to join in the ANZAC spirit and attend their local community event. "ANZAC Day is a special day to gather, in person and in spirit, to honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the men and women who have served our nation in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations."
"It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to protect the freedoms we hold dear and to remember that the peace and prosperity we enjoy today was made possible through their bravery and selflessness. Lest we forget", said the Mayor.
Honouring ANZAC spirit
Baw Baw Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Tricia Jones thanked the many community groups involved in the planning, preparation and delivery of local ANZAC Day commemorative services. "We are so fortunate to have so many dedicated RSL clubs and community groups who volunteer their time to organise community events to keep the ANZAC spirit alive."
"I urge everyone to join in your local commemoration and honour the memory of those who came before us, not just with words, but with action. Those wishing to pay their respects from home are encouraged to stand in their yard, driveway or balcony and observe a minute's silence at 5:55am as the Last Post is played during dawn services", said Cr Jones.
Those attending a local event are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early. Some roads will be temporarily closed across the Shire to enable local ANZAC Day commemorations to take place. For a full list of commemorative events and associated road closures, please go to ANZAC Day 2025 website.
