Bridget Brown from Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club wins silver medal in beach sprints at Victorian Championships 2022
Life Saving Victoria's best senior athletes from Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) put on a spectacle at Warrnambool SLSC this weekend for the Victorian Championships.
More than 750 competitors, officials and supporters travelled to the state's west to put their lifesaving skills to the test in near-perfect conditions over three days of competition. This included Bridget Brown and Jessica Jackson in the beach events, the Seaspray "Fortified" boat crew comprising Linley Bertacchini, Sally Black, Kristine Gilbert, Emma Lazzaro, Philippa McInnes and Stuart Mawley.
Though challenging conditions forced the postponement of the events, the Seaspray team again showed its skill and talent in the surf and on the sand
Under 19 beach sprint
Bridget took home a silver medal in the under 19 women's beach sprint, then with Jessica teamed up with Altona Life Saving Club's (LSC's) Zahra Patterson and Jan Juc SLSC's Isabella Robinson for a bronze medal in the open women's beach relay, while Seaspray Fortified also took home a bronze medal in the open women's surf boat division.
The Victorian Senior State Championships were made possible thanks to the support of the Warrnambool City Council, Victorian Government and national sponsors Ampol, DHL, Isuzu and Westpac, and Engine, the supporting partner of the event.
Jessica Jackson continued her top form this season, winning gold in the beach flags to become the under 19 Victorian champion
Great active training
Life Saving Victoria director - aquatic sport Aaron Green said, "Congratulations to our athletes on an outstanding weekend of competition at Warrnambool. It is fantastic to see your commitment to your sport, as well as to your communities as patrolling lifesavers come through in such an excellent weekend of competition across beach, water, surf boat and lifesaving disciplines."
"Aquatic sports serve as great active training for our lifesavers in skills they use during weekend
patrols such as rescue techniques, surf swimming and resuscitation, as well as lifesaving and first aid knowledge in events like champion lifesaver and champion patrol."
"I would also like to thank our officials, team managers, clubs and other supporters for your
dedication to making this weekend happen and Warrnambool SLSC for hosting us in the fabulous
west region." Mr Green said.
Competitions are conducted by SLSA across a wide range of ages, over the coming summer season our rowers will be competing at all the local carnivals
