General Manager Strategy, People and Culture, Elisa Hunter, said the organisation was thrilled to have reached this important milestone. "Diversity and inclusion are core values, as is creating a workplace where everyone can succeed and feel valued and supported. Achieving gender diversity is more than just numbers - it is about initiatives that promote equality, provide professional development opportunities, and support work-life balance."
Elisa said this milestone showed Southern Rural Water was delivering on its commitments outlined in its Gender Equality Action Plan, which was adopted in 2022. "We have also sought to broaden opportunities for women in STEM occupations - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - to attract and maintain talent and make Southern Rural Water an even better place to work."
"We have also sought to broaden opportunities for our female workforce, and have recently undertaken female only recruitment for operational positions within the organisation that are traditionally dominated by male employees," Elisa said.
