Wellington Shire extends Yarram swimming pool season to 19 weeks for summer 2024 - 25
Wellington Shire Council has extended Yarram Swimming Pool's summer season to 19 weeks, enhancing accessibility with set hours, Free Swim Fridays, and reduced temperature-based closures.
Wellington Shire Council is excited to announce that the Yarram Swimming Pool will be open for an extended 19-week period during the upcoming summer swim season, adding four extra weeks to the usual 15-week schedule. This decision follows a detailed review of the facility's operating hours, incorporating feedback from residents through the Aqua Energy and Outdoor Pools Survey and the community-driven Yarram Pool User Group Committee.
For the 2024/25 season, Yarram Swimming Pool offers extended hours, consistent openings, and Free Swim Fridays, maximising community access and enjoyment throughout summer
Improving pool access
The extension aims to improve accessibility, usage, and overall satisfaction, reflecting the valuable input gathered from residents and pool users over the past six months. The 2024/25 season will see the Yarram Swimming Pool with:
- Adjusted hours
- Guaranteed opening times
- Less reliance on the unpopular temperature trigger model
- Allowing locals more opportunities to enjoy the pool during the warmer months
In addition, Free Swim Fridays will be available throughout the entire season, encouraging visitors to take advantage of swimming facilities at no cost.
Enhancing community facilities
Wellington Shire Council CEO David Morcom said that the Yarram Swimming Pool is a valuable community asset that provides many benefits to its residents. "Although it may appear like an indoor pool with an enclosed roof, we have faced operational limitations that have been a challenge for the community over time. This year, we tackled these concerns and have worked with both the community and councillors to develop a practical, budget-friendly solution that meets everyone's needs."
"This is a fantastic win for the Yarram community, and we hope this improvement is well-received by both residents and visitors. We look forward to seeing the pool utilised during its extended operating hours, as requested by the community. Mr Morcom said.
