Latrobe City Council helps secure $117M funding for local projects from Victorian 2022/23 budget

Latrobe City Council thanks the State Government for their investment in local projects as part of the 2022/23 Budget.

Latrobe City's advocacy work is focused on enhancing our regional city's liveability, economy and overall health. These advocacy themes align with the council plan and community vision.Through advocacy, council is the voice of the community, working to deliver infrastructure and policy in partnership with other levels of government to meet the current and long-term needs of the regional city.

Latrobe City Council advocacy is based on policy and strategy positions that are supported by evidence and data, and is informed by our current advocacy plan

Investment funding

The state government has committed $116.55 million on the following:

• $7.3 million to upgrade Yinnar Primary School
• $8.25 million to deliver a northbound overtaking lane on the Strzelecki Highway between Morwell and Mirboo North
• $57 million for the Central and Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy
• $37.5 million to deliver additional breast cancer screening across new and existing services through BreastScreen Victoria
• $6.5 million to construct a new emergency mental health, alcohol and other drug crisis hub at Latrobe Regional Hospital

This investment is in addition to State-wide projects which includes $111 million to support the visitor and events economy, $101 million for regional road upgrades and $246 million for creative industries.

Better outcomes for the city

The state government's $250 household payment scheme for living pressures will also be a welcome relief for community members. Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan recognised the positive impact the state government's investment will have on the region.

"On behalf of the council, I wish to thank the State Government for their commitment to local projects that improve the liveability of our city. In our Budget submission, we highlighted the importance infrastructure investment has to future-proof our economy and liveability for our communities."

"While we are thankful for these programs, we will also continue to advocate for our Strength Led Transition priorities. This investment is the beginning of our priorities and we will continue to advocate for better outcomes for our city," said Cr. O'Callaghan.
