Concert for Seniors at Korumburra Indoor Recreation Centre to feature Lonnie Lee
Over 300 people attended the performance with many singing, toe-tapping and dancing to Lonnie Lee's greatest hits at the annual Seniors Festival Concert.
South Gippsland Shire Council was pleased to again host their annual Senior's Concert recently, as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival. The concert was held at the Korumburra Indoor Recreation Centre and featured the Australian pioneer of rockabilly music, Lonnie Lee. The event was supported with grant funding from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and was the first seniors concert held in South Gippsland in two years, following a COVID caused hiatus.
This year's Seniors Festival Concert's theme was 'takin' it easy' which attendees were encouraged to do and did at the Senior's concert
Recognising seniors
Deputy Mayor, Nathan Hersey, officially opened the event, welcoming attendees and recognising the valuable contribution seniors have made and continue to make to our community. The concert was emceed by Sophie Dixon, council's Coordinator Community Strengthening, with morning tea packs supplied by Brent Sinclair Catering.
The Seniors Festival is a major state-wide festival for Victorians over 60. It features many free or low-cost events and activities held throughout October. This year's theme was 'takin' it easy' which attendees were encouraged to do - and did - at the Senior's concert.
Remaining active and engaged
South Gippsland Shire Council Deputy Mayor, Nathan Hersey said, "It was fantastic to see over 300 people attend the South Gippsland Senior's Concert. The concert, as hosted by Gippsland Shire Council, is just one of the important ways our community is supported to remain active and engaged. Our quality of life as we age is extremely important. Australians should expect to be supported with engaging opportunities throughout every stage of life."
"The concert has always been well-supported by our local community and this year was no exception. Lonnie Lee is an energetic and talented performer who shared his talent with high quality music. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making it a success." Deputy Mayor Hersey said.
