Gippsland hotels get federal funding to improve energy efficiency

Funding grants to upgrade hotel and accommodation providers to install energy monitoring equipment and improvement works through double glazing insulation.

Hotels across Gippsland can now improve energy efficiency and lower power costs thanks to the Federal Government. Local MP Darren Chester said four accommodation providers in East Gippsland received funding.

Investing in more efficient practices

Mr Chester said, "Power bills can be a huge cost for local accommodation providers and these grants allow businesses to invest in more efficient practices, with bushfires and the coronavirus pandemic local accommodation providers have been hit hard over the last couple of years and this funding will help with running costs now and into the future."

Received funding

Hotels and accommodation providers that received funding include:

  • Grand Terminus Hotel, Bairnsdale - $25,000
  • Lakes Waterfront Motel, Lakes Entrance - $22,463
  • Sandbar Motel, Lakes Entrance - $24,760
  • Bruces Waterside, Mallacoota - $21,500

Mr Chester said the grants would help lower power bills by allowing providers to invest in energy efficient appliances and more.

Grants to upgrade

Mr Chester said, "Accommodation providers can use the grants to upgrade to more energy efficient air conditioning, refrigeration and equipment, improve the building through double glazing and insulation, carry out energy audits or install energy monitoring equipment. It is essential that we support our accommodation providers and ensure they can reduce running costs wherever possible."

Community benefit frm the program

The Hotel Energy Uplift Program was announced in the 2020-21 Budget and is part of the Government's $1.9 billion investment in new energy technologies which will create new jobs now and into the future, reduce emissions and ensure all Australians have access to reliable and affordable energy. Hotels, motels and serviced apartments with up to 99 rooms were eligible to receive grants under the program.
