Help shape our council's approach to economic development. Bass Coast Shire Council is creating our new Economic Development Framework.

By news@gippsland - 29th September 2022 - Back to News

The new Economic Development Framework will outline council's plan to increase opportunities for business activity and investment, facilitate participation in employment and education, build the competitiveness, diversity and resilience of our economy and support the ongoing economic wellbeing of the community.

The Economic Development Framework will be over four distinct phases, with each phase having opportunity for community involvement

Opportunities and strengths

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that the first steps in the development process included the preparation of the state of the Shire report, which was recently delivered, along with a Business and Industry Survey.

"The State of the Shire report provides us with an evidence base of economic and population indicators that will inform and support the development of the Framework."

"Along with feedback from the Business and Industry Survey, council is meeting with key stakeholders to better understand opportunities and strengths of the region to help us develop the Framework, but we also want to hear from the community." Cr Whelan said.

Provide your feedback

Cr Whelan said, "I encourage business owners, residents, and visitors to provide their feedback by going to the Economic Development Framework page to complete the survey. Future opportunities for the community to provide input and feedback will be available throughout the development of the Framework."

"Bass Coast is a unique region. Our needs are different from that of our neighbouring municipalities. Our natural world is delicate and plays a significant role in driving economic activity, our communities and people that live, work and visit Bass Coast, our industry, business and agriculture sector all have challenges and opportunities specific to Bass Coast."

Know more about the project

Cr Whelan added, "This is why it is important for the council to create a specific Economic Development Framework for Bass Coast. The development of our Framework will be over four distinct phases, with each phase having opportunity for community involvement."
