New oval lighting for Inverloch, Dalyston and Cowes recreation reserves from Bass Coast Shire Council

Bass Coast Shire Council will install new oval lighting at the Inverloch, Dalyston and Cowes recreation reserves over coming months.

The oval lighting project will see each oval fitted out with new LED lighting, which will achieve an average of 200 lux and exceed the required standards for local level Australian Rules Football. The power capacity will also be upgraded at each reserve as part of the project.

Enhancing recreation facilities

Design work for these three projects is already underway, which is expected to be completed in early March. Once the design work is completed, trenching and electrical conduit installation works can begin. Delivery of lighting poles and fixtures is anticipated in late May, with the project to be completed by the end of June, subject to contractor availability and favourable weather.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that these field lighting projects were identified as a priority within Council's Active Bass Coast Plan. "Our Active Bass Coast Plan identifies projects to enhance recreation services and facilities across the municipality over a ten-year period. These three projects represent yet another significant investment in sport and recreation facilities for the Shire." Cr Whelan said.

Minimising disruptions

This $1.2 million project has been funded with $1.08 million from Sport and Recreation Victoria's Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, $40,000 from council and $75,000 from the Dalyston, Phillip Island and Inverloch Kongwak Football Netball Clubs.

While work is underway on site, appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be in place, and access might be restricted. The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions to recreation reserve users, however council appreciates that these works may present an inconvenience and asks for your patience during these times. This project will include the use of heavy plant and machinery including noisy and vibration works.
