Metung Farm irrigation gets water recycling get $800k upgrade by East Gippsland Water
East Gippsland Water begins irrigation upgrades at Metung Farm to enhance water recycling. Managing Director, Steve McKenzie, highlights the $800k investment's environmental benefits and resilience.
As part of East Gippsland Water's investment into improving water recycling processes, works have commenced on irrigation improvements at Metung Farm, Reynolds Road, Metung. East Gippsland Water's Managing Director, Steve McKenzie said, "This $800k irrigation project is another step in the organisation's longer-term capital works investment plan to improve water recycling processes across the region."

Irrigation system installed
McKenzie said, "These works are an essential step forward in managing our environmental protection systems and meeting our commitments to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). To ensure that we are prepared for future weather events and the challenges that these present to our water systems, we are investing in the necessary infrastructure to help mitigate impacts of extreme climatic conditions."
Civil works have been completed by the contractor, Maffra Trenching and Boring Pty Ltd, in preparation for the installation of the centre pivot irrigator. These works included water pipeline connection, filling of the dam, and removal of trees and fence lines.
The centre pivot irrigator has been installed and further electrical works to upgrade the main switchboard and install cabling to the pivot will be completed by Prove Infrastructure over the coming months. The pivot will cover an area of approximately 14 hectares providing additional irrigation capacity at the Metung Farm. Works are due to be completed by the end of the year.
