Enabling a better balance
With PUCV members, we've advocated for peri-urban communities, reaching a milestone at the Australian Council of Local Government conference, focusing on managing growth and maintaining livability through collaborative efforts.
The PUCV alliance is the leader in advocating for support and solutions for the rapidly-growing Victorian peri urban region. Our region covers in excess of 11,000 square kilometres and represents a population of over 180,000 Victorians. PUCV member regions are expected to grow by more than 47% by 2036. Along with my Peri Urban Councils Victoria (PUCV) members, we have been continuing the task of promoting the needs of our peri-urban communities with our state and federal leaders.

Collaboration milestone reached
A significant milestone was reached during the recent Australian Council of Local Government conference in Canberra - an annual forum for local government to engage directly with Federal leaders - where a special panel session was held to discuss the needs of peri-urban and regional city communities.
The session unearthed some uniting themes around managing growth and maintaining liveability, and stakeholders called on the government to act quickly to address the twin challenges. PUCV commends the government for an interesting discussion and an excellent conference.
Submissions focus recognition
From a policy perspective, PUCV is preparing a submission on the National Urban Policy as well as the Plan Victoria consultation process. The focus of both submissions will be calling on the state and federal government to recognise the term peri-urban and work with councils to accommodate the large numbers of people who continue to leave the big cities in favour of the lifestyle and economic benefits of our communities.
Finally I would like to recognise the work of now departed Golden Plains Shire, CEO Eric Braslis who was a formative member of our alliance and who's contribution will be missed around the board table. Congratulations on your new appointment Eric! Thank you for your ongoing support and I look forward to keeping you updated on our continued progress.
