The oval lighting will be upgraded at the Cowes, Dalyston and Inverloch recreation reserves, after Bass Coast Shire Council awarded the tender for the project at its December Council Meeting. The $1.1 million project has received funding support from the State Government's Community Sports and Infrastructure Stimulus Program and the Phillip Island, Dalyston and Inverloch-Kongwak football netball clubs and will be completed as part of Council's Capital Works Program 2021/22.

The project will see four new high-efficiency LED (200 lux level) field lighting towers and fixtures installed at each playing field

Essential for all sporting fields

Bass Coast Shire Mayor Cr Michael Whelan said that adequate lighting is essential for all sporting fields. "It enhances the team, umpire, and spectator experience - boosting visibility and allowing players of all ages to train and compete safely and effectively at night," Cr Whelan said. The December Council Meeting also saw the endorsement of the Anderson Street Reserve Master Plan.

This Reserve is positioned at one of the highest points of San Remo and provides spectacular views towards Westernport and Cape Woolamai. It has a historical significance and was gazetted as a site for public recreation in 1888.

Vital community space

The Reserve currently has a picnic table, two bench seats, a tap and a mix of established Cypress trees and more recent plantings. Cr Whelan said that the Reserve is highly valued by the San Remo community.

"It is a vital community space that needs to cater for the growing San Remo community. The Master Plan includes the provision of a playground and fitness area, a rotunda, park furniture, trees and landscaping. The Master Plan has been developed to guide the future use and investment for the Reserve." Cr Whelan said.
