Local artists wanted to apply for public mural for community or township with grant of $20,000 from Baw Baw Shire Council
Council is seeking expressions of interest from local artists and creative community members keen to deliver a public art mural project for a community or township within Baw Baw Shire.
Through the Public Art Program, Council has a $20,000 grant available to support the commissioning of a mural project. The mural is to be publicly displayed within a publicly-owned Council space, or on private land having sought appropriate permission.
Many talented artists live and work in the Shire and visitors and residents can see their work in galleries and workshops located in many of Baw Baw Shire's towns
Send your expressions of interest
As part of the funding criteria, the project is to be completed within the 2021/22 financial year. Interested community members and groups wishing to make a submission are invited to complete and submit the Expression of Interest (EOI) form available on Council's website. As part of the criteria process, EOI submissions are to include the following information:
- Concept sketch of the artwork
- The proposed location
- The proposed artist to complete the work
- The vision of the mural and how it ties into the location
- Estimated timelines for completion
All submissions will be assessed by Council's Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, who will select the winning submission.
Public art plays a valuable role in building community pride and enhancing the cultural identity within the Shire.

Mayor Cr Danny Goss said, "Public art is so valuable to the visual character and overall appeal of Baw Baw. We know how much our community loves to see vibrant and interesting spaces not just for residents, but for visitors too ! This is a fantastic opportunity which I'm sure our talented and creative arts community will be keen to participate in."
Through the Public Art Program, Council seeks to further build creative partnerships with the arts community and develop vibrant public spaces within Baw Baw for residents and visitors to enjoy.
