Gippsland High Country Hall of Fame gets $750,000 election pledge to determine its best location and design
Victoria's High Country communities will have their history immortalised in a High Country Hall of Fame under a Liberal and Nationals government.
Leader of the Nationals, Peter Walsh, and Shadow Minister for Tourism, Cindy McLeish, announced $750,000 in funding to determine the best location and design for a future High Country Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame will be established in consultation with High Country communities and involves two steps.
The Liberal Nationals will make sure our High Country communities have a place to celebrate and preserve their rich history
Connecting to history
The first is an expressions of interest phase, where interested communities can put forward a bid; and the second a shortlist phase, where the best three bids would receive financial assistance to prepare detailed business cases. "The High Country Hall of Fame will connect the history of the area and pay tribute to the people and industries that have shaped the region's history."
"This announcement is the result of a sustained effort of a group of people who are passionate about preserving the history of the High Country, and this is a crucial first step to making their plans a reality. The Hall of Fame will be an asset to north-east Victoria and is something only a Liberals and Nationals government can deliver." Mr Walsh said.
Adding attraction and asset
Shadow Minister for Tourism, Cindy McLeish said the business case will shape what the High Country Hall of Fame becomes. "A Hall of Fame has been a passion project for the Mountain Cattlemen's Association of Victoria and it is fantastic to be able to announce this business case that will get the ball rolling."
"It will be another attraction and asset to one of Victoria's iconic tourism regions. This will be a place our community can be proud of and it will add to the outstanding tourism attractions that already draw more than one million people to the High Country every year." Ms McLeish said.
