Over $400,000 of federal funding for indigenous projects in Wellington Shire

Five programs in Gippsland received funding under the Federal Government's Indigenous Advancement Strategy.

Two Indigenous programs in Wellington will benefit from funding as part of the Federal Government's Indigenous Advancement Strategy. Local MP Darren Chester said Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation would receive over $400,000 in funding to deliver the programs.

In schools where Indigenous students are achieving well, there is generally a highly effective and committed principal who has done 'whatever it takes' to ensure Indigenous students are at school, engaged in learning and making sound progress

Supporting indegenous education and wellbeing

Mr Chester said, "These programs are focussed on supporting the education and wellbeing of Indigenous children in our community. The funding will support Ramahyuck to deliver successful early childhood, school, training and safety and wellbeing services."

Funding recipients

Two programs to receive funding include:

• Wanjana Lidj Yarning about Families; Playing with Families and Koori Learning Hub Program - $138,841
• Gippsland Children and Schooling Project - $262,641

Mr Chester said the funding also supported local jobs in Wellington.

Improving early outcomes for indigenous children

Mr Chester said, "Providing financial support for these programs ensures that the organisations can support the communities and also their staff. These projects will continue to support the Indigenous community and improve early outcomes for Indigenous children in Gippsland."
