Gippsland Water invests $48M in Baw Baw Shire to enhance system capacity and infrastructure maintenance, supporting high-growth areas like Warragul, Drouin, and Yarragon.
Gippsland Water is investing more than $48M in the Baw Baw Shire to increase system capacity and maintain infrastructure. The investment is part of the organisation's 2023-2028 Price Submission and will ensure Gippsland Water can meet the increasing needs of the high-growth region, with major projects planned for Warragul, Drouin and Yarragon.

Upgrading growth infrastructure
Gippsland Water managing director Sarah Cumming said upgrading water and wastewater infrastructure to support high-growth areas was a priority for the organisation. "Baw Baw shire has experienced massive growth in the last decade and with that trend predicted to continue, it's essential we take action now. Futureproofing our infrastructure and improving resilience ensures our customers can continue to receive quality services well into the future."
Upgrades to Yarragon's Factory Road sewer pump station and rising main are among the planned projects. "This project will increase the capacity of the Factory Road sewer pump station and see the installation of an eight-kilometre rising main to cater for current and future growth in Yarragon. We know our customers expect us to plan for the future and this project is an example of us being proactive and planning ahead."
Other projects planned include an upgrade to the Warragul wastewater treatment plant, sewer augmentation in Warragul's north-east and a water main extension to the west of Drouin. Gippsland Water will invest a total of $268 million in capital projects and programs across its entire service area over the five-year period.
