Come and visit the garden and its annual show at Broughton Hall.

By news@gippsland - 13th September 2021 - Back to News

The Garden at Broughton Hall is stirring from her slumber, getting ready to perform her annual show-stopping display. The beds are filled with delicate bulbs in September, cherry blossoms bloom radiantly in October, and (*cue the jazz hands*) a finale of swoon-worthy roses in November. Bring your own picnic to enjoy in these fairytale grounds.

Broughton Hall is located in Jindivick, just an hour and a quarter from Melbourne in the midst of idyllic countryside. The property sits overlooking the Tarago River, backdropped by layers of mint-green hills. The owners have gone to great lengths in the gardens so you don't get too distracted by the spellbinding views.

Winter with the mist of the water, bare branches, and exposed hedging is a very beautiful time as well, it is a garden for all seasons now

Garden features

The 25 year old garden is filled with twisting paths leading to different sections of the garden, dotted with features like antique Egyptian gates, hedge centrepieces, and a walkway of Romanesque columns wrapped in happy, winding roses. There are plenty of park benches along the way for contemplation.

When you've finished marvelling the heavenly gardens, pop into Muskers onsite nursery, filled with rare and unusual plant species. The collection celebrates diversity with an eclectic range of trees, shrubs and perennials as well as bulbs in season.

While there is no intention to make the garden larger, a few fences will be moved out in the next few years to allow for more planting of peculiar species and improve access to the garden for maintenance. There are always more projects to work on and more areas of the garden to re-develop so like all gardens it is a work in progress.

Short history for the garden

The garden at Broughton Hall is now in 2019; 23years old. The banks, lawns, paths, steps and garden beds were designed and constructed in 1996. Since then it has been the variety of plants, the density of planting and the original, eclectic nature of the planting scheme that has evolved to become a major feature of this garden.

The garden at Broughton Hall is also great for events and functions, even for a photo shoot and you are sure to leave the garden with a relaxed and refreshed feeling when you visit
