Construction of Agnes Falls viewing platform near Toora for $710,000 announced as election commitment by Victorian Nationals
The Nationals have given tourism in South Gippsland a Cup Day boost with a funding commitment to complete a revamp of Agnes Falls near Toora.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien has confirmed a commitment of $710,000 to construct a cantilevered viewing platform at the falls along with an improved carpark, footpaths and signage. Mr O'Brien said after eight years of disappointment under the Andrews Labor government, The Nationals would finally deliver this long-awaited project if elected.

Improving views of the falls
Mr O'Brien said, "Agnes Falls is a hidden gem in South Gippsland - almost literally. The viewing platform out over the gorge will dramatically improve views of the falls and improved footpaths, including all-abilities access into the falls, will make sure more people can visit, bringing more tourists to our region."
"This project was on the verge of going ahead when Labor came to power in 2014, and many years later we will get it done. Agnes Falls are the highest single span falls in Victoria and we want to let people come and enjoy them."
"Coupled with magnificent local attractions like Wilsons Prom, Waratah Bay and Corner Inlet, the project will drive visitor numbers and the whole region will benefit." Mr O'Brien said.
Economic opportunities
Mr O'Brien said, "The Friends of Agnes Falls committee has worked hard on this project for many years and have been incredible lobbyists. I will be delighted to be able to deliver the full project if we're elected in November."
Mr O'Brien said the Labor government's failure to support the project came at a cost to Gippsland tourism, jobs and economic opportunities. "The Nationals are focused on bringing people out of the city and boosting our local economies. That's why we've committed to a 25% Regional Infrastructure Funding Guarantee, to ensure regional Victoria gets its fair share."
