Paynesville Slip Road Maritime Precinct on Burrabogie Island upgrade underway with $6.1M funding from Victorian and federal government grants
Paynesville's much-anticipated Slip Road Maritime Precinct project on Burrabogie Island is progressing, with work on an improved design set to begin.
The upgrade of the five-hectare site bordering the narrow McMillan Strait will include new seawalls, boardwalk, boat ramp, jetties, parking, pathways and upgrades to utilities. In late 2021, council engaged local marine services firm Carter Marine Group to deliver the first construction package of the project. Works commenced in January 2022 with onsite piling works and offsite prefabrication.
Council recently engaged a contractor to carry out further offshore geotechnical works, which will be used to update and improve the design
Work progress
Carter Marine Group will shortly temporarily demobilise from the project site to work on another project in the Lakes Entrance area. The geotechnical contractor will then mobilise in mid-May for a week. Carter Marine will later remobilise to complete the first construction package following redesign and ordering of further necessary material. Council will provide further updates prior to remobilisation. In the meantime, detailed design of further stages, including car park works, is progressing.
The project, due to be completed in June 2023, is funded by the Victorian government, through its Infrastructure Stimulus Fund ($1.1m) and Regional Infrastructure Fund ($4m), and the Australian government through its Community Development Grants Program ($1m).
