Baw Baw Shire Council's budget investment for local roads improvement.
Baw Baw Shire Council will continue its major investment in improving our 1,823km local road network with an $11.21 million dollar investment in roads for the year ahead.
Baw Baw Shire Council focuses on delivering quality services to the community through a combination of existing programs, new initiatives and capital works for community benefits
Road investment highlights
Road investment highlights include:
- $2 million for the Road Reconstruction Program which will address the road condition on Weerong Road, Drouin between Wellwood Road and Longwarry Road (Stage 2) and Saleyards Road, Trafalgar between Waterloo Road and Contour Road
- $1.8 million to seal approximately 3,000m2 of unsealed sections of road
- $1.8 million to prepare and reseal over 200,000m2 of roads
- $1.6 million for localised pavement repairs to patch and improve the ride quality of approximately 20 roads across the shire
- $1 million towards road safety improvements on Bona Vista Road, Warragul, Lardners Track, Warragul, Burke Street, Warragul, Mills Road, Warragul, McNeilly Road, Drouin, Binbeal Road, Drouin and Normanby Street, Warragul. (Noting some works are subject to successful grant funding)
- $280,000 towards accessible parking improvements including the reconstruction of DDA compliant pedestrian ramp to the car park on Albert Street, Warragul
Additionally, further funds are allocated towards ongoing roads maintenance activities, such as pothole repairs and street tree maintenance, as part of council's ongoing roads maintenance investment.
Addressing the shortcomings
Alongside our investment in roads, Baw Baw Shire's local paths and trails network will also see a $3.27 million investment, including:
- $1.5 million to continue the construction of the Rokeby to Noojee Trail
- $75,000 to construct the next round of highest priority footpaths identified in the Paths and Trails Strategy, including those along Settlement Road in Drouin, North Road in Warragul and Princes Highway in Yarragon
- $515,000 for gravel and sealed path replacements, trip hazard rectifications, disabled access upgrades and pram ramp replacements across the Shire
Council will also continue to advocate to both the state and federal government for more investment in needed road projects - including our call to the state government to allocation Regional Roads Victoria $3 million towards planning and design works to properly address the shortcomings of the 100-year old State-owned arterial road networks in Drouin and Warragul.
