Local community invited celebrate completion of solar energy project at Coronet Bay Community Hall in Bass Coast
Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting the community to celebrate the completion of the solar energy project at Coronet Bay Community Hall this month.
The event will be held at the Hall (Gellibrand Street) on Tuesday, 29 March from 11.00am and will include a renewable energy community drop in session from 11.30am. In 2021, Sustainability Victoria, under the Community Power Hubs (Gippsland), awarded Coronet Bay Community Hall with a $12,318 grant to install an 11.84 kW solar system. As part of this project, additional funding of $482 was provided by the Energy Innovation Cooperative's Southern CORE fund for energy audit.

Reducing electricity costs
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that it is fantastic to have local groups like the Energy Innovation Cooperative working with communities to help them reduce electricity costs and promote renewable energy.
"This project enables a reduction in electricity costs and contributes to lower emissions, which aligns with actions from our Climate Change Action Plan, supporting our aim to reach zero emissions by 2030. We expect that the installation of the solar panels will reduce electricity costs at the Hall by around $1200 per year, which is an incredible saving." Cr Whelan said.
Opportunity to talk
Cr Whelan also said that the session will give community groups, small businesses and individuals the opportunity to talk to representatives from council: to learn more about available grants, renewable energy and sustainability, such as:
- Gippsland Community Power Hub
- Energy Innovation Co-operative
- Totally Renewable Phillip Island
- Gippsland Climate Change Network
- Island Energy
"Community education will aid and support the actions in our Climate Change Action Plan and will help us reach our goals, both for the community and our organisation," Cr Whelan concluded.
