Gippsland Water and Wellington Shire install vibrant community drinking fountains in Maffra and Stratford Parks

Gippsland Water and Wellington Shire have installed new drinking fountains in Maffra and Stratford parks, featuring Gunnai artist Alice Pepper's artwork. The initiative promotes hydration and sustainability.

Gippsland Water and Wellington Shire Council have teamed up to bring new community drinking fountains to Maffra SkatePark and Stratford Memorial Park. The fountains feature vibrant artwork by Gunnai artist Alice Pepper. Managing director Sarah Cumming said Gippsland Water and Wellington Shire had delivered 12 drinking fountains together.

Hydration and sustainability

Ms Cumming said, "We've been working closely with the Wellington team to make free water more available across the municipality for about five years now. Maffra SkatePark and Stratford Memorial Park are local hubs for physical activity, making them perfect places to stop and enjoy fresh drinking water."

Gippsland Water's drinking fountain program aims to make it easier for people to make healthier choices for themselves and the environment every day. The program encourages people to carry a reusable drink bottle to help reduce the amount of plastic sent to landfill.

Refreshing outdoor spaces

Wellington Shire Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Cindy Madeley said the fountains were a simple way to keep locals and visitors hydrated while enjoying the great outdoors. "It's fantastic to see new drinking fountains popping up in some of our favourite parks."

"By promoting refillable bottles, we're cutting down on waste and doing our bit for sustainability too. We're really proud to collaborate with Gippsland Water on this project and can't wait to see the positive impact for everyone who uses the parks," Cr Madeley said.
