Fair investment in Gippsland after Commonwealth Games cancellation advocated by Wellington Shire Council
Wellington Shire Council advocates for fair investment and funding in Gippsland after the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Wellington Shire Council shares in Gippsland's disappointment that the 2026 Commonwealth Games planned for regional Victoria were cancelled last week. Council, led by Mayor Ian Bye is working closely with state government Ministers and representatives to advocate for its fair share of investment and funding allocated to Gippsland. "It is important that the Victorian government acknowledges the economic loss that will be felt all throughout Gippsland, and not just the regional centres declared as host 'cities', " Cr Bye said.
