Applications open for East Gippsland Youth Ambassador Program for young people aged living, studying or working in shire
East Gippsland Shire Council is looking for young people aged 12 - 25 living, studying or working in East Gippsland to add their passion, drive and ideas to the Youth Ambassador Program.
Are you passionate about creating positive change in your community, having fun and meeting new people? Or do you know a young person that is? The Youth Ambassador Program is a peer-led committee of council. It is designed to help council better understand and meet the needs of young people in East Gippsland. It's also a fun way to volunteer and have input into planning, design and activities that you want to see in your community.

Resilience and connectedness
Supported by the council's Youth Engagement Officer, Youth Ambassadors are a mix of various ages, skills, abilities and backgrounds. Members are empowered and can choose areas of focus and interests to develop skills and networks in a supported and inclusive environment.
This year, there is the additional opportunity to be part of the Gippsland East Youth Project's Youth Programs Committee - and be paid for your time! The Gippsland East Youth Project (GEYP) is an externally funded and facilitated project that supports a mobile youth space (a bus) travelling throughout the shire to support activities which build community resilience and connectedness. This is a super exciting project for East Gippsland!
Exactly what activities the GEYP team do is guided by the Youth Programs Committee. These meetings will be held monthly on a Wednesday night and are in addition to the regular Youth Ambassador meeting. Participation on the committee is paid.
Opportunity for young people
Mayor Mark Reeves said being a Youth Ambassador provides an opportunity for young people to discuss youth issues, have a meaningful engagement with council and have a say about the future of their community. "Our Youth Ambassador program has been running for a number of years now. It has led to some great initiatives and developed the confidence and skills of the young people involved."
"Youth Ambassadors are instigators of positive change for young people in the shire. Their mission is to ensure young people are engaged and feel valued as citizens in the community. I encourage young people to apply and use their interests to help Youth Ambassadors achieve their goals over the coming year," Cr Reeves said.
Applications to join the Youth Ambassadors program are open now. To apply, visit East Gippsland Shire Council 2023 Youth Ambassadors Application. For more information about the Youth Ambassador program, see our Youth page.
